Official translation for use abroad

Every country has its own rules on which translations it accepts. We tell you what you need for yours and deliver a translation that is ready to submit.

Sworn, official and certified translation: the differences

A sworn translation is the Spanish model: it is signed by a sworn translator appointed by the MAEC. Outside Spain each country has its own system: sworn translators in France, Germany or Italy, certified translations in the UK and the USA, notarised translations elsewhere.

By official translation we mean one that meets the requirements of the country where you will use it. It may be a Spanish sworn translation, a translation certified by our team with a statement of accuracy, a notarised translation or a translation by a translator authorised in the destination country.

Common destinations

  • United Kingdom and Ireland: certified translation with a translator’s statement; sometimes notarised.
  • United States and Canada: certified translation (e.g. for USCIS or universities).
  • Germany, France, Italy, Austria: usually accept Spanish sworn translations, sometimes with an apostille.
  • China, the UAE, Latin American countries: often require legalisation or an apostille on the translation.

How we handle it

Tell us in the quote form which country or authority you will submit the translation to. Your project manager confirms the requirements before work starts and, if needed, takes care of the apostille, legalisation or notarisation.
