Translations for the homologation of foreign degrees
To practise a regulated profession (medicine, nursing, engineering, law…) or prove your level of education in Spain, you need to have your degree homologated or declared equivalent. Documents not in Spanish must be translated.
Homologation or equivalence
Homologation to a Spanish university degree is required to practise a regulated profession. Equivalence certifies the academic level (bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) without giving access to a specific profession. Both are requested from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities; non-university qualifications, from the Ministry of Education.
Documents to translate
- The degree certificate.
- The academic transcript, with the subjects, their duration and the workload in credits or hours.
- Course syllabi, if you are asked for them.
Legalisation
Documents from countries outside the EU must carry an apostille or legalisation before they are translated. Documents from the EU do not need it.
EU professionals
If you obtained your degree in another EU country and want to practise in Spain, the procedure is usually recognition of professional qualifications, not homologation. It also requires translating any documentation that is not in Spanish.
