Sworn translation of marriage certificates
To prove your relationship to the immigration authorities, register a marriage celebrated abroad or apply for nationality through marriage to a Spanish citizen.
When you need it
- Residence card for family members of EU citizens and family reunification.
- Spanish nationality by residence as the spouse of a Spanish citizen.
- Registering a marriage celebrated abroad with the Spanish Civil Registry.
- Divorce, inheritance and changes of surname.
Getting married in Spain
If one of you is a foreign national, the marriage file usually requires their birth certificate and a certificate of marital status or of capacity to marry from their country, legalised or apostilled and translated. We translate them together so you pay a single minimum.
Apostille and EU certificates
Certificates from outside the EU must carry an apostille or legalisation before they are translated. Between EU countries no apostille is needed and, with the multilingual standard form under Regulation (EU) 2016/1191, often no translation either.
How much does it cost?
Price per language for a one-page document (for example, a certificate with its apostille), translated into or from Spanish, VAT not included:
| Language | One page, from | Per word |
|---|---|---|
| English | €25 | €0.10 |
| French | €25 | €0.10 |
| German | €60 | €0.10 |
| Italian | €70 | €0.10 |
| Portuguese | €70 | €0.10 |
| Romanian | €60 | €0.13 |
| Arabic | €60 | €0.13 |
| Russian | €90 | €0.13 |
Longer documents are priced per word: €0.10 for the most common languages (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese), €0.13 for most others (Romanian, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Polish…) and €0.18 for languages with few sworn translators, always subject to the minimum shown in the table. For example, a 750-word document from English into Spanish costs €75 + VAT.

Frequently asked questions
Which marriage certificate do they ask for?
Normally the full or long-form certificate, not an extract. If in doubt, tell us which procedure it is for and we will advise you.
Can you also translate a family book (such as the Spanish libro de familia)?
Yes, we translate family books and certificates from any country. If they run to several pages, they are priced per word.
Does the translation expire?
A sworn translation does not expire; what may expire is the original certificate, if the authority requires it to be recent.
