Sworn translation of wills and inheritance documents
When the deceased or the heirs are from another country, the notary and the Spanish Tax Agency (Hacienda) need the documents translated into Spanish. We help you work out which ones.
Common documents
- Death certificate.
- Will and, if there is one, the certificate from the country’s register of wills.
- Grant of probate, letters of administration or equivalent documents.
- European Certificate of Succession.
- Documents proving the heirs’ relationship (birth, marriage).
Inheritance within the European Union
Since 2015, Regulation (EU) 650/2012 determines which law applies to the succession and created the European Certificate of Succession, a standard form that makes it easier to use in other EU countries. Even so, the notary may ask us to translate its content.
Spanish inheritance for use abroad
If an heir lives abroad or there are assets in another country, we translate wills, deeds of acceptance of inheritance and certificates from the General Register of Last Wills (Registro General de Actos de Última Voluntad) into whatever language you need.

Frequently asked questions
Does the whole will need to be translated?
Normally yes, because the notary must know all its provisions. If it is very long, ask us: sometimes certain parts are enough.
How much does it cost?
One-page certificates have a fixed price; the will and longer documents are priced per word. If you order them together, you pay a single minimum.
